How To Increase Vocal Range

Many people reach their naturally highest and lowest notes and give up, thinking that's all they have to give. Let me tell you, it's probably not!

It's good you are here, because it means you've taken the first step ahead to becoming a better singer when wondering how to increase vocal range.

Singing is all about practicing and working on it. You won't learn to ride a bicycle the moment you climb on it, and neither would you expect that to happen, so why think singing is any different?

Let's start by the beginning

  • Breathe properly. The breathing technique most singers use with amazing results is “diaphragmatic breathing”. Using abdominal breathing will give you a base to build your singing on. Meaning, you should start from there to make sure your singing doesn't fall apart later. To do this, find the notes that are comfortable for you and start singing scales from your low notes to the higher ones. This kind of scales can also be considered a part of your warm up. They will get you ready to pursue more!
  • And now, let's go further up! Now that you know where your stand in your vocal register, you are ready to improve. Once you reach your usual highest note, using the “diaphragmatic breathing” and taking advantage of how your “instrument” is ready to work after warm up and relaxation, try to go further. If it hurts, stop and check your breathing again, something is not right.   • And now, further down! Go down the notes doing scales to up to the lowest note you've reached so far, and try getting further down too. Only going for higher notes can bring adverse results, so always make sure you keep a balance and really increase your vocal range!
