Speech Level Singing - Powerful Singing technique

Speech level singing is a fairly new, but revolutionary technique for singers. Tons of successful performers use it, and you can do it too!

Before getting into this technique, we'll start by introducing you to a part of your body you might have never before paid attention to, but is absolutely essential for Speech level singing: the larynx.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Let's try finding it and feeling how it works to know it better!

Place your hand on your throat. Swallow. Noticed the large bump moving below your chin? Well that's your larynx!

The larynx keeps food from entering your breathing system, that's why you felt it go up when you swallowed!

Place your hand on your throat again and try yawning this time. Your larynx came down, did you feel it?

The main idea in speech level singing is to keep your larynx steady, at "speech level" as you sing up and down to get the best out of the sound you are making. The thing is keeping it in a low position, but not exaggeratedly low. You want to avoid blocking the air coming out, but you don't to the extreme of having your larynx stay lower puffing the sound up!

With your Larynx at speech level, you can expect the best from your singing.

In Speech level singing, though, breathing the right way is also essential; so let's get an insight on how to do so.

The right way of breathing for this type of singing, and singing in general, is "diaphragmatic breathing". This breathing technique is based on the use of the diaphragm to handle the air you get in and out of your body.

By learning how to use this breathing technique you will be absolutely able to handle the air with your diaphragm. By doing so, you will prevent the muscles on your throat form straining and also be confident on how much your air will last for doing your long notes!

When using Speech level singing the muscles around your diaphragm will do this regulation process automatically. The way your larynx is placed will make it even easier and more relaxed.

It seems easy right? Well, it's even easier with some guidance and help.

You now possess the main secrets of this singing technique, it's up to find out even more and start using this great technique for singing better every day!

Of course SLS isn't the only technique that can provide powerful and everlasting results. Other successful singing techniques are taught by the likes of Per Bristow and Brett Manning's. Have a look at their programs for step-by-step instructions on how to improve your singing and performances.
